Walking

Mas del Rey is an excellent base for beautiful walks. Inland lies the La Tinenca de Benifassá nature park, bordering Els Ports in the north. From the various mountain villages there are well-signposted routes to follow. Short, long, easy and challenging hikes. Something for everyone. You'll enjoy stunning panoramic views, crazy rock formations, small springs and little waterfalls with the clearest water. In the shoulder seasons you'll often encounter springbok, you'll always see vultures soaring overhead, and with a bit of luck, wild boar darting away.

Along the coast, just south of Peñiscola, lies the Sierra de Irta. Here you'll find routes marked by time and distance. The area alternates between steep cliffs and cute little sandy and shell beaches. It's perfect for a half-day hike with beautiful sea views and the delicious scent of herbs in the air. You can also spend a full day here with a visit to the Castle of Magdalena de Pulpis.

Further inland, there's an old spring called Font de la Salud, from which you can take walks through olive groves. If you're back in time, you can enjoy a delicious lunch upon your return at an excellent restaurant next to the ancient monastery, Casa dels Capellans.

Cycling on the Costa del Azahar and inland

If you drive on the country roads, you'll always see groups of cyclists in the early morning or late afternoon. On racing bikes or mountain bikes, and of all ages. You need to be reasonably fit to cycle here. It's never flat, sometimes slightly downhill, other times steeply uphill or delightfully downhill. From Mas del Rey, you can go in any direction. For recreational cyclists, the coast is easily accessible. You can cycle from Peñiscola to Vinaròs or vice versa.

For more of a challenge, head inland.

Within just 10 km, you'll find plenty of steep climbs to enjoy. You'll ride along quiet country roads, past orange, almond and olive groves. You can take a break in authentic villages that you'll often come across on your route. And getting lost is nearly impossible—just head back towards the coast... Golfing at 'Panoramica Club de Golf'

In the province of Castellon, there are several 18-hole courses. One of the most well-known is just a 20-minute drive from Mas del Rey: the golf course 'Panoramica Golf, Sports & Resort' in Sant Jordi. According to experts, it's a pleasant course with challenging holes. For golfers who don't want to play the full course or don't have a handicap yet, there's also an extensive Pitch & Putt.

At the Club Social, there's a restaurant with a large terrace overlooking the course. Equipment rental and lessons are available, and the prices are very reasonable.
